Grammarly began as a tool for enhancing grammar and writing correctness, but growing user expectations called for a more versatile solution—one that adapts to tone, audience, and intent. As it evolves into a comprehensive communication assistant, the focus is on blending an optimized, AI-driven UX with the trusted patterns millions of users already love.
Project Vision
In the initial exploratory phase, our focus was on pushing the boundaries of creativity to reimagine how users interact with Grammarly’s AI assistant. This stage was all about generating out-of-the-box ideas that could break away from traditional chatbot paradigms.
Following our exploratory phase, we collaborated with Grammarly’s internal team to align on a unified direction using the designs their team was already developing. This ensured the final approach was consistent with Grammarly’s evolving vision.
The project’s scope grew as we mapped out how Grammarly should function across short-form and long-form writing. The complexity of addressing various user intents—correcting, refining, or generating—became a key challenge that influenced our design systems and interaction models.
A pivotal moment came when we identified that users weren’t just editing text—they were juggling platforms, tasks, and audiences. This realization shaped the need for a context-aware system that could seamlessly adapt to different workflows while respecting user intent.
Smarter, More Intuitive, Human

Project Vision
From a script draft to a two minute sizzle reel in two weeks. We started with a much needed storyboard, aligning stakeholders and illustrating the vision.
With an imminent announcement at Dreamforce 2024, the stakes were high to showcase generative canvas to the world.
From rough mockups we constructed a sophisticated UI using Salesforce's latest design system and had to ensure that the tile-based interface scaled across desktop and mobile form factors.
The biggest challenge was to showcase Lightning Canvas’s capabilities across multiple use cases and people. This was achieved by carefully selecting footage that would represent each.
